The number one question I get as a designer.

As an Interior Designer I get asked a lot of questions. When it comes to a home and trying to figure out what will work best in a space, you can imagine how many questions there may be. Imagine starting from scratch in your living room not knowing where to start exactly or where to look for furniture, rugs, decor or even finding the right color for your home. It can be a lot I know. When I first moved into our house we currently live in, I even struggled a bit on a few things of what I was really wanting our home to look or feel like. I went back and forth on some things and then made a decision I ended up changing later on. But that’s the joy of being able to change your mind and being a homeowner, amiright?!

Probably the number one question I get from almost everyone I talk with is “I don't know what colors to choose for our home, can you help me?” And I want to jump at this opportunity almost instantly because choosing the right colors for a room and throughout your home will either make you love it or dislike the space.

With many options for colors and so many trends happening, it can be a lot to narrow down the right color for a room.  Having natural lighting versus incandescent makes a big impact on a color choice.  The flooring that you have in a room will possibly affect the color on your walls. I always want to see the color in the space before it’s applied to the walls. Picking a color in a store versus seeing it in your own home with your lighting is always a good choice and one I always tell my clients.

Sometimes that little 2x3 color swatch is all you need to decide which is best in your space, or buying a few sample colors to apply on your walls will help too.  Or sometimes hiring a designer who truly knows what you’re wanting and knows even the undertones of colors can really make a difference when choosing a color.

Whether you pick a color on your own or hire someone to help, have fun with it.  Paint can always be changed and most likely you’ll repaint down the road. Do something you are loving now and do something different later on.
